log book for fyp 2



Week 1
I started planning and study all about my project title.  See my supervisor for the advice and plan. Discuss with him what should I do for the starting. He asked me to research back the proposal that i had do for the past semester. I research back about my project title.  I research back about the DTMF. The DTMF cannot call in, it just can call out. Furthermore, DTMF not stable at all because it used tone frequency control. So that, I planing to used GSM model for my project.

Week 2
so, I start research back about GSM model. It can receive and transmit data. Before that, I had research about GSM but not deeply because I dont interested about it, so then I just reseach about DTMF. When, I want start research about the DTMF, I saw it was so difficult to used. Futhermore, DTMF rarely used in our technology.
The GSM modem can be used as:
  • Reading, writing, and deleting SMS messages.
  • Sending SMS messages.
  • Monitoring the signal strength.
  • Monitoring the charging status and charge level of the battery.
  • Reading, writing and searching phone book entries.

Week 3 -  week 5
Three week I take time for learn about the software and hardware. I study about programming knowledge first. I learn about PCWH C-Compiler that used for  my programming. Actually, this software was easy to coding compared to what I have learn in Keil compiler. I had start study with simple coding first like to turn on LED. Then, I slower learn about LCD, relay,switch and so on. In this program, I used PIC16f877aand rs232 as the GSM modem. I take many time to unserstand about the programming because this programming different from what I study in my subject. I used this software because I realise that this programming more easy to understand in short time. I also learn how to draw a PCB design. Before that, I had to draw simple circuit on the proteus and then transfer the circuit to the PCB design layout. First, I tried with simple circuit first before to my project circuit. That why, I take for three week to study this skills.


Week 6
 For the first step in my project, I draw the schematics on the proteus. I had many problem to draw this schematic. This is because I had to find what components that suitable with my GSM modem because in the proteus does not have a GSM modem. So I replace the modem with the others components. So then, the GSM modem it does not  working on the proteus in others mean in the software. For sensors, I used a pushbutton to replace its functional. Then, key switch I replace with switch. So then, for others functinality we can know its function when the LED was on.
            Then, I write a coding for programming step. More time was take to write this programming. The, I test my programming with link t the proteus that I draw. It take for two week and more to this circuit working. It has many errors at first. I tried edited many time for my coding to working.

Week 7 – week 8
After my project in software was working. I had went to Jalan Pasar find a components that I want to used. More difficult to find is GSM modem because its too expensive. I have to survey GSM modem for 3 week. For two times I went to Jalan Pasar to find the components. And lastly, I got for RM400 for one set GSM modem at Bizchip in Serdang, Selangor. I do the prototype board. This is because I want do a testing. I went to burn my Integrated Circuit (IC) at MPLAB in UniKL BMI. Then, I going back and testing my circuit until it success. Its take time also too success, many problem that I have to face. Sometime, LED turn on sometime not, same things others components like pushbutton and LCD. LCD also sometimes working and sometimes not workings. Its display only half of the i want to display and many problem.

Week 9
In this week, I draw the PCB layout. This step take time because draw layout was difficult. My circuit was complicated with many devices. My project used many devices because my security system used for all angle like temperature, door and windows. I also used four relays for four extension. Then, have tens LED for shows each functionality. Each sensor had one LED. When the sensor is in used,  the LED will on according to what sensor that we used. Each extension also have their own LED to show what extension was in used. Then, arm and disarmed LED and lastly LED for all system. If the LED of all system was turn off, that means the system is down.
 Week 10
This week I do for two step because the step was just for a while to do. First, I fabricate the PCB design according to the layout that I draw last week. After that, I start arrange the components and then solder. This called soldering step. It take for two days for soldering because, the component was so many and I had a problem when the soldering lead was run out. Sometime, my soldering iron had a problem. Maybe because, used in a long time, so the heat of the soldering iron became low.

Week 11
This week, I edited some my programming. I finished my programming for GSM and relays programming and went to burn my second IC.  This is for the real project.  after I test and its working successfully, I shows the result to my supervisor. And he says that, its okay and good. For many days I tried do the best for my project. I hope this project will success when I present n week 14.

Week 12
I do the neatness of my project. I arrange the board and devices on the board and  testing for the video. For the neatness, I just used wiring devices like wire clip and screw. For two days I thinks the idea for the arrangement so that it not stringy. Many ways I had arrange and finnally I got the idea and arrange the wire. That the final stage for my project hardware.

Week 13
I do the report and the same time I do poster and preparation for the presentation next week. My supervisor also want the report on week 14 so that I do the report from week 7 one by one.

Week 14
This week is presentation week. I got many comment from my accessors from electronic section; Puan Julie and Encik Azman. However,  the presentation is running well as I supposed to.

over view and benefit



Overview and benefits
Home automation refers to the use of computer and information technology to control home appliances and features (such as windows or lighting). Systems can range from simple remote control of lighting through to complex computer/micro-controller based networks with varying degrees of intelligence and automation. Home automation is adopted for reasons of ease, security and energy efficiency. But in my project, I want to control two systems that are remote control and phone monitoring. In this case, if you are at home, you can control by remote control while you are away from the hose, phone monitoring will control its. An example of remote monitoring in home automation could be triggered when a smoke detector detects a fire or smoke condition, causing all lights in the house to blink to alert any occupants of the house to the possible emergency. If the house is equipped with a home theater, a home automation system can shut down all audio and video components to avoid distractions, or make an audible announcement. The system could also call the home owner on their mobile phone to alert them, or call the fire department or alarm monitoring company. This means, there is an alarm to warning to the people. If you are away from houses, the telephone alarm will warning you by a code ir password. so, you can know how your house conditions. n terms of lighting control, it is possible to save energy when installing various products. Simple functions such as motion sensors and detectors integrated into a relatively simple home automation system can save hours of wasted energy in both residential and commercial applications. For example imagine an auto on/off at night time in all major city office buildings, say after 10pm. When no motion is detected, lights shut down, and the owner could save kilowatts of wasted overnight energy. Similar controls on HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) in buildings could save even more energy. Recently, Web technologies have been suggested as an application-level solution to address the problem of heterogeneous home devices, building upon the concepts of the Web of Things.

Week 12 & 13
This project I prepared my proposal report. I completely my proposal report before submit on week 14. I completed what that not enough in the presentation like my accessor comment and according to the proposal report gudelines in fyp website. Before I submit this report, i refer to my advisor first until he says okay.

Week 11
My accessor Mr. Ahmad Basri says better used DTMF than GSM liked I want. He say, DTMF better and rarely used in systems. Its also simple than GSM model and maybe can be function. He also say that, before I do this project, many student has been propose this project but cannot function and he hope my project will be successful. So that, he want me to used DTMF in this project.
